Embracing Singleness: The Benefits of Being Unmarried

Society has this way of pushing the whole “marriage is the ultimate goal” narrative down our throats. From the endless streams of wedding invitations to the well-meaning but slightly annoying questions from family and friends about your love life, it can start to feel like there’s a ticking clock on being “unmarried.” But here’s a little secret: if you’re not married, don’t stress! You haven’t missed out on anything. In fact, you might have dodged a whole lot of chaos.

When choosing between being married and unmarried, it is better to be unmarried. However, if you can’t help it, then be married rather than burn with passion. There is no sin in that.

A Bit of Pressure

Sure, marriage can be beautiful. It’s about love, partnership, and the occasional marathon session in matching pajamas. But let’s not sugarcoat it. Along with those romantic moments come heaps of unpredictable challenges. From navigating finances and family dynamics to compromising on what to watch on TV, relationships can be complicated. By choosing to be unmarried, you’ve often sidestepped a lot of that drama. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to avoid unnecessary hassle?

Now, if you’re feeling a bit of pressure—from society, friends, or even that coworker who thinks everyone should have a wedding binder—remind yourself that misery loves company. Those who face their own relationship struggles might try to draw you into their woes, pointing fingers and raising eyebrows at your single life. Just because someone feels guilty about their choices doesn’t mean you should feel pressured to conform to their standards.

Worldly people have always thought there is something wrong with someone who is innocent about having sex. Innocence makes them feel guilty for their interest in sex. Guilty people, rather than facing their own guilt, try to project it onto the innocent. They blame the innocent for making them feel guilt, pain, and discomfort. Own your singlehood and innocence.

Meaningful Connections

That said, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a relationship! If you genuinely have feelings for someone and you admire and respect him or her, why not explore that bond? It doesn’t always need to lead to a family or traditional marriage. Sometimes meaningful connections come without any strings attached, and that’s perfectly okay.

Now, let’s talk about that whole “making things happen” mentality. In meditation, we learn that sometimes, instead of hustling and stressing about making our lives fit a certain mold, it’s essential to take a step back. When we stop forcing situations or relationships, we can create the space for the right things to come along. It’s almost like the universe is waiting for you to exhale and pause. Once you let go of the need to control timelines, surprising things start to unfold. Maybe a connection forms, or maybe life presents you with new paths. When you give up making things happen, things happen anyway, and it usually happens for the best, even if you don’t see it right away.

Being unmarried isn’t missing out on the whole marriage party. It’s more like being spared from the overwhelming trouble with the flesh that comes with it. So, if you’re single and loving it, wear that badge honorably. And if romance strikes, be open to it!

Just remember: you’re the one steering your own ship, and it’s perfectly fine to navigate those waters at your own pace. Cheers to freedom, choices, and whatever life brings your way!
