When someone is being cruel, pause and take a deep breath. Avoid stressing over their shenanigans. Ask yourself, “How am I really feeling right now?” It’s usually anger or hurt. And that’s okay, as these are the first battles you face within.

Those feelings are your battleground. Sit with them. Notice, without judgment, that resentment is creeping in, and let it pass. When you give those feelings some space, they’re much less intimidating. First, acknowledge your feelings. Allow them to settle down. Then, it’s time to speak the truth to continue your battle against them.

Resolving Those Feelings

It’s crucial to remember that repressing your feelings of resentment won’t do you any favors. Sure, we all know it’s easier to sweep things under the rug. Still, that leads to a messier living room (metaphorically speaking). By resolving those feelings, you free yourself up to express yourself authentically. Not only does this feel good, but it prevents all that pent-up frustration from surfacing at the worst possible moment!

Now, let’s talk about preparation. You wouldn’t jump into a fight without some training, would you? Meditation, mindfulness, or simply being introspective can work wonders for you. Don’t wade into life’s challenges without being aware of your feelings. When you’re in a calm state, you’re tuned into what you really feel and can let it pass. This way, when toxicity shows up, you’ll be ready for any battle that comes your way!

Finally, when you ditch the resentment, you unlock the door to speaking up truthfully and acting wisely. That’s life-changing. So, remember: battle one is all about conquering your feelings, battle two is about speaking your truth. With practice, you’ll find that overcoming resentment is not just the first battle. It is the key to living your best, authentic life!
