Let’s chat about something we’ve all experienced at one time or another—colds. Yes, the inconvenient, annoying, stuffy nose that seems to appear out of nowhere. Dealing with your cold doesn’t have to involve a pharmacy run or a medicine cabinet stuffed with various syrups and pills. Instead, it all boils down to a little thing called conscious awareness.

Acknowledge Your Cold

You wake up with a scratchy throat, and a wave of dread washes over you. “Will I be able to make it to that party tonight?” “What if I can’t go to work tomorrow?” The worry sets in, and before you know it, your thoughts spiral into a frenzy of anxious scenarios. But what if you just took a step back and simply acknowledged your cold? Just look it in the eye, take a deep breath, and become consciously aware of your body and what it’s doing.

Imagine that you’re sitting in your room, and instead of stressing about what’s going to happen next, you focus on your body. Feel that tingling sensation? That’s your body letting you know something isn’t quite right. Rather than letting those thoughts drift into “What ifs?” and “Oh no, not this!” let’s shift the narrative. Just become aware of the cold. Notice the symptoms: the stuffiness, the cough, and the general sense that your body is a little off-kilter.

When your mind starts to wander, and it will—we all have that pesky habit of escaping into our worries— just gently bring it back. It’s like waking up from a dream and realizing you’re right where you need to be. You might say to yourself, “Yes, I have a cold.” That’s the first step.

Honing Your Awareness

As you cultivate this consciousness, you begin to observe your cold without attachment or panic. Just keep acknowledging it. “Oh, there’s that tickle in my throat again. How interesting.” You’ll start to notice that as quickly as the cold comes, it can go just as quickly. It sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? Being consciously aware of your body can lead to a fascinating outcome.

Now, if you’re new to this process and the idea of honing your awareness feels a little daunting, fret not! Seek out a moment for a brief meditation. Find a cozy spot, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Focus on what it feels like to just…be. Don’t force awareness; let it flow naturally. You might feel that resentment bubbling up about having a cold, or suddenly realize you’re not just dealing with physical symptoms but also old baggage. That’s okay! Acknowledge those feelings, too. It all adds to your current experience.

An Internal Grace

As you go about your day, continue to be mindful. Instead of masking your symptoms with medications, let your enlightened awareness act as your shield. This isn’t about suppressing or ignoring what’s happening; it’s about embracing your experience, observing it, and allowing the body to do what it does best.

You see, a long time ago, when we were growing up, we relied heavily on our physical defenses. You know, those antibodies we developed as our bodies learned to navigate the world. But as we mature, we have the capacity for deeper awareness. We’ve got an internal grace that can help us rise above the clutter. And when we tap into that, we find ourselves less reliant on those outer prompts, like cold medicine or worry. As the saying goes, “What you resist persists.” So, let’s stop resisting!

Picture it: there’s no pesky virus that can stand before the light within you. This isn’t some whimsical concept. Think of it as aligning with your true self, disengaging from life’s stress and the mundane battle with illness.

Embrace the Light

The world is chaotic and can often lure us into unhealthy routines, relationships, and thought patterns that degrade our consciousness. But when you awaken to your inner light, suddenly those cold symptoms don’t stand a chance. They give way to clarity and understanding. You’ll start to see your relationships shift, too — getting drawn away from negativity and toward more uplifting connections.

So, if you’re feeling those sniffles come on, don’t let worry overshadow your day. Instead, become conscious of your body, your thoughts, and your emotions. Breathe in that light, and watch as your cold fades away, just like the distractions of life. Remember, you are a child of the light, and by embracing your experience rather than resisting it, you will rise.

Here’s to being conscious, living in the moment, and letting those little colds pass as quickly as they come. It’s all part of the journey! Stay light, stay healthy, and remember that you’ve got this!
